Following Vermont’s historic decision to become the first state to ban paraquat, Parkinson’s advocate Mike Mooney joined Fox & Friends to share his personal story and raise awareness about the growing evidence linking paraquat exposure to Parkinson’s disease.

Mike used paraquat while working landscaping jobs as a teenager and young adult. After years of unexplained neurological symptoms, he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease at age 49. Like nearly 90% of people living with Parkinson’s, he has no known genetic cause or family history of the disease.

Mike also published an op-ed for The Syracuse Post-Standard, urging New York lawmakers to take action when the Legislature reconvenes in the fall. Meanwhile, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced that it will convene a national roundtable in summer 2026 to examine the latest science on paraquat, evaluate documented safety concerns, and explore potential solutions and alternatives.
